Saturday, July 26th
I had breakfast with Lia Riley, and fellow 2014 Golden Heart finalist Piper Huguley and I went to the Avon Impulse Meet and Greet. Nicole Fischer and other editorial staff shared information, answered questions, and took pitches in a small, quiet, and relaxed atmosphere. I met historical romance author Lauren Willig at the St. Martin’s Press Book Signing and visited the Ballantine Bantam Dell Book Signing, too.
MID-MORNING THROUGH LUNCH:
Sarah MacLean’s workshop was full and closed to additional participants, so I returned to the hotel for my awards ceremony shoes and met the rest of the Golden Heart finalists for the rehearsal in the Grand Ballroom. RWA staff answered our questions, had us walk across the stage, and did a sound check. Some finalists went to Luciano’s for lunch. We discussed the acceptance speeches RWA staff requested, public speaking techniques, and how to walk in heels without clomping or falling down.
After lunch I went to my room to take a quick nap and review the acceptance speech. I rushed downstairs to the Grand Central Forever Book Signing to snap this photo of my friend / California CP Lia Riley.
I returned to my room to get ready for the awards ceremony. Luckily Cheryl Rae (friend / Austin RWA chapter mate/ CP/ web guru) also worked as a make-up artist and hair stylist for models in New York and made me look beautiful. (Thanks, Cheryl!)
2014 RITA / GOLDEN HEART AWARDS CEREMONY:
AFTER THE AWARDS CEREMONY:
Jillian’s Notes: My apologies to the Dreamweavers sisters who aren’t pictured in today’s album. I wish I had photos of everyone. You, the 2014 Golden Heart finalists and winners, are the best part of the whole 2014 Golden Heart finalist experience. I truly missed meeting Julie Mulhern, Stephanie Winkelhake, Kristi Ann Hunter, and Pintip Dunn in person. Thanks to Charis Calhoon, Denny S. Bryce, Connie Taxdal’s friend Joni, Gwynlyn MacKenzie, Piper Huguley, and Sarah Andre for the use of their photos! Here’s my final #RWA14 snapshot.
